Thonga Beach Lodge

Lazing on the beach in the protected world heritage site Isimangaliso Park lies South Africa’s premier beach Lodge. With no development 100 miles up or 60 miles down the beach, this is a beach and marine wilderness sanctuary unrivalled. 12 luxurious thatched rooms (a few with private pools) are discreetly nestled into the dune forest overlooking Mabibi beach.

Thonga Beach Lodge is proud to have played a role in Maputaland’s world renowned turtle success story. Leatherback and Loggerhead turtle’s have laid their eggs on this ancient shoreline for thousands of years. Thonga Beach Lodge and the Isibindi Foundation continue to play a role in protecting this breeding ground. Guests from all over the world arrive to view this annually between November and March.
Our local community benefits from the lodge in dozens of ways through our Isibindi Foundation, our 2022 project has been the Mabibi school which now stands proudly as a beacon of light for community conservation

• DINING

  Three dining areas – one in the full forest canopy shade, one in semi-shadeand one indoors – offer numerous dining options depending on the time of day. A permanent tea and coffee bar is available in the indoor dining room

  BAR

  Our well-stocked bar serves all your usual favourites along with delicious speciality cocktails and coffees. Our cellar has a fantastic selection of prime South African wines.

• BEACH DECK

  The beach deck looks onto Mabibi beach and is a stones throw away from the water. Numerous types of loungers and seats are available.
• SWIMMING POOLS

  There is a deep pool used for scuba courses and swimming, and a shallower pool, both complete with umbrellas and cushioned loungers.
• WI-FI LOUNGE

  A comfortable lounge area with a selection of books and board games to keep you entertained.
• RELAXATION AREA

  The outdoor relaxing area is under the trees next to the pool, on beach sand, with comfortable hammocks, outdoor couches and chairs.
• SPA

  Unwind, de-stress and soak up the experience with a relaxing spa treatment in serene rooms overlooking the reserve.
• MARINE CENTRE

  Our accredited staff run the marine centre which is fully equipped with SCUBA and snorkeling gear, as well as a TV for educational or kids’ movies (shown on request).
• AIRSTRIP

  An 800m long tarred airstrip is located approximately 25 minutes from the Lodge. Guests can charter in or leave their private planes at the airstrip. 4x4transfers to the lodge are available by pre-arrangement at an additional charge.
• CURIO SHOP

  Our on-site curio shop is stocked with quality souvenirs, African beadwork, items of clothing and everyday essentials.
