Africa’s most famous hotel has a storied past when it comes to romance: in 1952, 54 years before purchasing the hotel for their Red Carnation collection in 2006, Stanley and Beatrice Tollman shared their first dinner together at the Oyster Box. All these years later, the iconic red-and-white stripes that adorn the golden Umhlanga coast still set the perfect scene for blossoming romance.

Just 15 minutes from Durban’s international airport, The Oyster Box and its surrounding area play host to a diverse variety of thriving cultures and enchanting natural beauty spots. Spend your honeymoon strolling along the Umhlanga Promenade and pass local landmarks, like the famous Lighthouse and Whalebone Pier, en route to the area’s beloved beaches and serene Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve. Couples seeking an immersive cultural experience can venture inland and explore the Zulu Village or sample the cuisine cooked by the region’s large and culturally influential Indian population.
